The debate concerning the ethics of shooting game birds at extreme range continues to smoulder among some elements of the shooting fraternity, but there’s no doubting its popularity. the key question is of course, what constitutes very high birds?
John Jeffries who specialises in the design of dedicated game guns for this kind of shooting is in no doubt. “sixty yards maximum,” he states emphatically. “With my gun i can hit birds consistently at that range but after that ballistics fall away quickly and it becomes more a matter of chance”.
