This was the first of my new ideas in a very special and controversial top rib to give a better target view and acquisition and correlation with the sight picture. The RSR is supremely special as a great allrounder for top game shooting and general clay shooting and this model has already put shooters on the rostrum it’s reputation building daily. Coupled with my special barrel lengths balancing and tuning, there is not a better game/clay/universal gun currently available. The 20g version has recently been called in a review in fieldsports magazine, (see the review section) ‘the ultimate game gun.’ The 33″ or 34″ RSR — ‘for high birds there is nothing better’. The greatest advance in shotgun sighting since the manton rib circa 1806 ?? — possibly. Vic Harker, clay shooting 2012.
To further explain why this design is really special you need to understand how this gun/sight picture works. Since the beginning of time (shotgun time that is) shotguns have been designed with a parallel top rib and a correct fit is obtained when the eye is positioned straight along this rib with a small height clearance at the breech allowing the target to always be in view. This is a good design and will be some shooters preference especially those who have shot with this method for some time. (The SR1 is designed like this hence it’s continued popularity and position in HPX guns.) The RSR (and the DSR) rib is different and is very slightly raised at the muzzle by a very small amount. This means that if it is fitted conventionally with your eye flat along the rib, it will in fact shoot low. Not a good idea so to correct this the stock must be designed and fitted with a higher head position to bring the POI up to where ever is required. In other words POA, point of aim, equals POI, point of impact. This all culminates in a much better head position, sight picture and target view, in fact, it offers the best target view of any gun. Difficult to get used to, not a bit. 95% of shooters who try the RSR are just amazed and bemused as to how it works and adapt to the benefits it offers after only a few shots, generally no more than a box of 25. It has commanded some amazing GENUINE comments from shooters all round the world some of which I have listed below. It truly is of great benefit and to the dissenters, well the SR1 is still there.
